Date of Death: November 19, 2022

Mohini Gumaste (née Kulkarni) was born on May 5, 1930 in Alaknur, India to Madhavrao and Laxmibai Kulkarni. She was the second of three daughters, with older sister Sona and younger sister Malini. She was raised in the small town of Jamkhandi, Karnataka where she graduated from high school.

Mohini married Vasantrao Gumaste in 1950, and went on to have two sons to whom she devoted her life, Anand Gumaste in 1952 and Vivek Gumaste in 1954.

From a young age, Mohini was ambitious with a vision for herself and her family that far surpassed the century into which she was born. She valued education above all and made sure that her sons went to the best schools even through financial hardship. Not only did she push her sons to higher levels of graduate education, but she also took it upon herself to take Hindi and typing courses at a time when most women were not educated at higher levels. She was a fiercely loving matriarch of her family, who took time to maintain family relationships with relatives far and near.

At the end of her life, she was most proud of her four grandchildren, Priyanka Gumaste, Varun Gumaste, Namrata Gumaste and Ankita Gumaste, as well as her two great-grandchildren Diya Patel and Aarav Patel. She was an outspoken, driven, pious, and sincerely loving person to all who knew her and whose absence will be felt deeply.

Mohini Gumaste is survuved by her beloved sons Anand (Jyoti) and Vivek (Sandhya) Gumaste, grandchildren Priyanka (Chirag Patel), Varun (Natasha Falconer), Namrata (Ram Narayan), and Anika Gumaste (John Paul Mikhael), as well as her great-grandchildren Diya and Aarav Patel.
